Know Your Numbers Week (Kid Learning Opportunities)

September 5-11 is National "Know Your Numbers" Week. This is the week where we focus on the importance of knowing your numbers. This can relate to many different scenarios, most commonly dealing with health, but in this case, I want to share a few learning opportunities that might help your child learn or practice their numbers.

Supplies & Instructions Needed To Complete All Activities

LEARNING PHONE NUMBERS

- Paper Plates

- Number Printouts or Cutouts (You can write the number if you do not want to print it out)

- Tape

  1. Printout "telephone numbers including * and # " or write on paper and cut out into circles

  2. Stick each number or sign on a paper plate

  3. Tape to the wall in the order of telephone numbers and practice learning important phone numbers

POSTING ON A NUMBER LINE

- Butcher Paper

- Post It Notes

  1. Rolling out butcher paper along the wall that will fit 20 numbers

  2. Write numbers 1-20 on separate post-it notes and mix them up

  3. Have the child build the number line using the mixed-up notes and put them in order

COLORED WATER NUMBER HUNT

- Paper

- Dark Food Coloring

- Clear Glass or Pyrex Dish

- Clear Plastic Cup

- Markers

- 2 Pieces of Paper

  1. Take a piece of paper and write numbers all over it and do the same with the second piece

  2. Take your clear glass or pyrex dish and fill it with water but not super full. Just make sure the bottom is covered

  3. Add dark food coloring so you can't see through the water

  4. Place the dish or glass on top of the pages of numbers

  5. Have the child use the plastic cup to search for the numbers. Place the cup down in the pan so the bottom of the cup is touching the bottom. The purpose is to push the water aside so you can see the numbers. Practice finding and recognizing different numbers

TRACING NUMBERS WITH Q TIPS

- Q Tips

- Construction Paper

  1. Write out numbers 1-10 on construction paper

  2. Put out a cap full of as many different color paints as you can get

  3. Use the q tips to dip in the paint and trace over the numbers

DABBER NUMBERS

- Dabber Dot Markers (Bingo Markers)

- Paper

  1. Take the paper and number it down the side 1-10

  2. Use the dabber marker to dot the correct amount of dots beside the number written

COUNTING CANDY

- Cupcake Liners

- Candy to Count (Skittles are a good option)

- Numbered Pieces of Paper

  1. Take each numbered piece of paper and put one in each cupcake liner and line them up 1-10

  2. Use the skittles to put the correct amount in each cup depending on the number inside

I hope you enjoy doing these activities with your children and it's a fun way to practice numbers.

The most challenging part about enhancing a child’s mind is keeping their attention. Our society has more distractions than you think and we use tools that greatly improve learning interest, and collaboration while giving students the comfort of taking control and pacing their progress. Fundamentals use creative approaches to make learning fun while expanding and intriguing more than just the mind.
