Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition, my daughter's and my son's favorite! There is a book that kids and parents/teachers can read to prepare for the elf to come. Here is the link A special scout (elf) is used to help encourage kids to behave and they will go back to the North Pole every night to report to Santa if they have been good or bad. Now, of course, this only makes sense for children who believe in Santa but there are also age-appropriate games with the elf up to an adult. Anyway, when they wake up, the elf is usually in a funny location either doing something hilarious or naughty. The kids get a kick out of finding the elf in the morning or seeing what they got into while trying to get into the house overnight or spending time in the house while everyone was asleep. It can be so much fun not only for the kids but the adults too.
People start at different times but my children want me to start December 1st on my son's birthday and go all the way until Christmas 😫 I use to start just in enough time to do "12 Days of Christmas, or even 10 🥴) but since I will be doing 3 weeks of Elf on the Shelf (Pray for Me) I decided to start up a Facebook group where we all give ideas and experiences to help the next parent. I am on year 3 so I have ideas to share but also need more to go forward!
It's so much more than just an elf! If you haven't already, just try it out (IF you already go along with the Santa experience) and watch how much joy you bring to those kids during the holidays. Whether or not children should believe in Santa and all that is another story I will get into within the next couple of weeks. There's nothing I loved more growing up than the magic of Christmas and my children are the same way. It's one thing for you to be a grinch or grouch or whatever you call it, but don't ruin an innocent child's way of imagination, magic, and fun or make them be anything other than a child but like I said that conversation is for another day .. I almost got worked up 😂
